George and Amal Clooney’s twins turn one! A look at Mom and Dad’s love story

George and Amal Clooney have kept their twins, Ella and Alexander, out of the spotlight. You got that right, no selfies or glamorous magazine covers for the Clooney kids, but maybe that will change now that they’re celebrating their first birthday? The lucky few that have met the Clooney babies swear they’re a perfect combo of their famous parents. “One looks just like her mother and the other is the image of his father. … It looks like they took the best parts of both Amal and George and mixed them together,” a source told People magazine. George Clooney became a dad at the age of 56. The Clooneys, who met in July 2013, are raising the kids between their homes in London, Los Angeles and their Lake Como villa in Italy, which will serve as home base for the summer. Lake Como is also the place Amal first laid eyes on her future husband. She was passing through Italy with a mutual friend who decided to make a stop at Clooney’s home. The actor’s agent was also in on the meet-and-greet. “I got a call from my agent who said, ‘I met this woman who is coming to your house, who you’re going to marry,'” Clooney said in an interview with David Letterman. What was his first impression? “I thought she was beautiful, and I thought she was funny and obviously smart.” While there was an instant attraction, the romance took time. They ended up talking and emailing for a few weeks before going on their first date, in London. Six months later, Clooney proposed. “I did all the stuff, got down on my knee and did all the things you’re supposed to do,” he said. A lavish Italian wedding followed, and in June 2017, the couple welcomed their twins. Amal recently revealed their first word was “mama.” The human rights lawyer is balancing motherhood and career like a true pro. In an interview with Vogue she said the family spends quality time between 6 and 8 in the morning: “We get to have [the kids] in our bed. I don’t schedule any calls before 8.” How does Clooney fit into his dad role? According to his friends, “George is a great dad — so fun and silly.” The softer side of George — now that’s adorable!
