George Clooney and Amal Clooney admitted on the pickleball court they’re on opposing sides.

While they're a part of the pickleball wave, the couple confessed they don’t argue much on the court, because their strategy is not to play together — but instead against each other.

The two explained while some of their fellow pickleball players argue, they’ve agreed with one another that they’re there for the “workout.”

“We don’t fight over pickleball just because it’d be so embarrassing to admit it on, like, live television that you fight over the word ‘pickleball,’ you know what I’m saying?" George, 62, told Extra while on the red carpet for the Clooney Foundation for Justice’s Albie Awards on Thursday.

“We play against each other,” said Amal, 45.

“We play singles because it's more of a workout,” added George. “I'm not quite that old yet.”

George confessed that because of the couple’s affinity for single matches that means he “loses a lot” to Amal.

On Thursday evening, the couple hosted the the second annual Clooney Foundation for Justice’s Albie Awards, in celebration of the brave figures “who, at great personal risk, have devoted their lives to justice," within human rights, business, entertainment, fashion and technology fields, according to the foundation.

The second Albies (named after Justice Albie Sachs) included a star-studded guest list of celebrities supporting the Clooneys, including Meryl Streep, Matt Damon, Jon Stewart, Gayle King, Melinda Gates, Greta Gerwig, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, John Krasinski, Cindy Crawford, Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz, Viola Davis, Alicia Keys, Scarlett Johansson, Sofia Vergara, Heidi Klum, Kate Moss, and many more.

While the couple celebrated the brave honorees at the Albie Awards, they revealed they recently exchanged gifts for their ninth wedding anniversary.

George told Extra that he gifted the traditional ninth wedding anniversary present to his wife, which is typically celebrated with a willow or pottery.

“It wasn’t an exciting one,” joked Amal. She added that she’ll “have to wait another, like, 16 years” before the traditional anniversary gift becomes truly impressive.

In September 2014, the couple tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in Venice, Italy. There were three days of parties in Italy prior to the nuptials and Amal’s mother, Baria, told PEOPLE the intimate ceremony was full of love.

“George and Amal radiated love all night,” Baria said at the time. “The wedding was so unbelievably special, it was legendary. These three days – the friends, the families, the atmosphere, everything – will stay with me all the rest of my life.”

Since the couple exchanged vows nine years ago, they expanded their family in June 2017 when they welcomed twins, Alexander and Ella, 6.

Amal told Extra that “it would be wonderful” to have the twins follow in their footsteps and participate in the Clooney Foundation. But she admits at their young age “it’s hard to tell what they’re going to be interested in.”

George quipped that Alexander and Ella are more into "headbanging music," adding, “They’re kind and they’re curious… They’re having fun.”
