Gregory Harrison has ended his run as Gregory Chase on General Hospital. Following his son Harrison’s wedding to Brook Lynn, which he officiated, Gregory spent some time with Finn, his other son, and granddaughter Violet before passing away in his sleep.

That Great Soap in the Sky

A rep for GH confirms to Soap Opera Digest that Harrison has completed his run as Gregory. The actor took over the part from James Read (Clyde, Days of our Lives) starting in late 2020. He inked a contract nearly a year ago with the ABC soap opera.

The character was diagnosed with ALS and began showing signs of the debilitating illness in recent months. Fans were vocal about wanting Gregory’s illness to be misdiagnosed so the character’s interactions with not only his family members but also screen partners Jane Elliot (Tracy) and Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis) could continue. (The character of Lucious on Empire initially had a diagnosis if ALS but then it was revealed he had the less fatal condition myasthenia gravis.

Alas, that story twist was not meant to be, and now, Gregory has passed away peacefully in his sleep, content that Chase is happily wed to Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton), and Finn (Michael Easton) is father to little Violet (Jophielle Love).

Harrison is one of the most familiar faces to TV viewers. He’s appeared as a series regular on Trapper John, M.D. and Falcon Crest. He appeared in the mini-series Fresno, which spoofed prime time soap operas. Check out our story with him where he shared his love of surfing.
