Gene Simmons Draws Twitter Wrath With His Thoughts on Working Mothers
Gene Simmons had tongues wagging on Sunday, thanks to his not-so-supportive thoughts on working mothers.
Kiss frontman Simmons drew fire via Twitter, after the New York Post published an interview with the musician in which he is quoted as suggesting that women who seek to balance a job and a family should, “Get over your biological urges.”
“It’s natural to want to have kids, but, sorry, you can’t have it both ways. You have to commit to either career or family. It’s very difficult to have both,” the bassist is quoted as saying.

The assessment drew a number of pointed responses on the Post’s tweet promoting the story.
“Gene, a woman can do it if she has a real man, an honest, loyal partner in life who support s & shares the responsibilities. Avoid narcissist. Together U can work as a well oiled machine. Married 34yrs,” read one response.
“Like I care what this 70s rock star who wouldn’t commit to his playmate girlfriend and mother of his children thinks about woman and what we can or cannot do,” read another reply.

“The issue is you need 2 salaries to maintain the standard of living of 40 years ago. Not easy for single parents. Don’t let that stop some celebrity from shaming your existence though,” reasoned another commenter.
“He’s a snake oil salesman dressed as a clown! What does he know about commitment? He treats women like meat,” another Simmons critic weighed in.
On the more succinct end of the Simmons criticisms, there was, “Who asks this prick to comment….ignorant misogyny.”

In fairness, Simmons did have his defenders, such as one commenter who wrote, “as a career woman, he’s right. women can work & be mothers but someone else is watching/teaching your kid for at least 8hrs a day. More than you. dropping the kid off at daycare from 8wks old until pre-k? yeah. no.”
