If you had any doubt, the Gen V's penultimate episode careens chaotically along, as the students try to stop an evil superhero prison hidden at their school. What was once a simple story within The Boys universe now contains a potential superhero-killing virus. Even worse, our small band of f'd-up students are the only ones who know enough about it to stop it. If this thing gets out, all superheroes on the planet could be murdered. For some reason, Godolkin University Dean Indira Shetty (Shelley Conn) wants the nasty virus airborne as soon as possible.

Our heroes try and set Dean Shetty up by having the duplicitous Cate (Maddie Phillips) triple-cross her, but they don’t know what to do with the information once they have it. “Then what, post it on Insta?” Marie (Jaz Sinclair) asks in this week's edition of The Boys spinoff. “They’re just gonna twist it like everything else, unless we get it to someone they will listen to.” Their first idea is politician Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit), another candidate for hope in this universe... who was revealed to have villainous motives by the end of The Boys Season Three.

So, Marie and Jordan investigate Dean Shetty’s office for more clues. In a secret folder, they find out that her parents were killed by terrorists in a plane crash, but The Boys fans are likely already aware that the accident is most likely the one that Homelander is responsible for in The Boys Episode Four. As Marie and Jordan read through her files, they’re forced to hide when the virus scientist barges in drunk. He pisses in the Dean’s whiskey bottle, then leaves. The scientist is angry that she wants him to figure out how to further weaponize the virus. Apparently, Indira believes that committing superhero genocide will end the war of "us vs. them." Mainly, it's just revenge.

It’s perfect timing, because Neuman is about to give a lecture at Godolkin University. Her motives are all over the place. I thought she was anti-supe, but here she is telling students that she believes in "superhuman rights." Is she fighting to make the world a better place by rooting out evil superheroes, or is she just working with them? Trying to equate what is happening here to the real-world politics that inspired it all makes my head spin. The plot gets even more confusing when a student asks her why Homelander hasn’t been held responsible for killing an innocent person in broad daylight at the end of Season Three. Then, the biased moderator calls her “un-American and anti-superhero.” What is happening?!

The chaos provides Victoria the opportunity to be on campus, however, so that Marie can get her the information about the virus. Lucky for Marie, Victoria wants to meet her too. She thinks Marie’s powers are “badass,” and informs her that she can “sense things in blood.” Marie then studies Victoria’s body and finds that she’s has Compound V in her blood as well. The anti-supe politician is revealed to be a superhero herself, which Boys fans kind of already knew. The big reveal at the end of Season Three was that she was responsible for all of the head explosions. Now, it's revealed that she could do that because she manipulates her blood just like Marie. Victoria even grew up with the same foster family. It all seems too close to be true, but it’s enough for Marie to feel like she can trust her. She tells Victoria about The Woods and the superhero virus. Neuman, in turn, promises to "handle it."

The whole gang then meets up at their Dean's house, and she reveals that the entire school is a front. Even though it remains a pipeline for superheroes to become crimefighters, the school was actually created to study and observe them. Using her mind-control powers, Cate makes Indira slice her own throat with a knife. She isn’t needed anymore. Her scientist hands the virus over to Victoria for safe-keeping, and the politician kills him by making his head explode. “Heads Will Roll” by the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s plays. Cute.

So, the virus is in Victoria's hands now. If not the secret big bad of Gen V, the politician will likely serve as a major antagonist of The Boys Season Four. Still, it remains unclear what her plan is. Does she plan to kill every superhero, or just Dean Shetty? This would kill her too, but is that a sacrifice she's willing to make? We’ll find out next week in the final episode of Gen V.
