Gayle King's 'Fav Daughter' Kirby Bumpus Welcomes Second Baby — 'Fav Granddaughter' Grayson

"Best Mother’s Day EVER," King captioned a post full of family images on Instagram

Gayle King is celebrating the “Best Mother’s Day EVER” with a new granddaughter by her side!

On Sunday, May 12, the CBS Mornings co-host revealed that her daughter Kirby Bumpus welcomed a baby girl named Grayson.

“Best Mother's Day EVER!! My fav daughter @kirbybump & husband Virgil Miller welcomed their (fav) daughter and now Luca is a big brother,” King wrote of her family and her 2-year-old grandson, Luca.

“Fav GRANDAUGHTER GRAYSON has arrived!” She continued.

Sunday also marked a special day for the baby’s mother, as King noted in her caption that Kirby celebrated her birthday over the weekend. “So much to celebrate! With people I love the most... fav son @willgb3 and his lovely fiancée @elisemariesmith,” added the journalist.

King is a longtime mother of two, as she shares Kirby, 38, and William Bumpus Jr., 37, with her ex-husband William Bumpus, whom she was married to from 1982 to 1993.

She first became a grandmother in September 2021 when Kirby welcomed Luca. "I wanted to be a grandmother for a long time, and it's really something when you see your own child become a parent," she revealed on air at the time.

"I am so nuts about him. And then I was holding him, Kirby goes, 'You know, you have to support his neck.' Uh, okay! I actually know how to do this!"

As for King's latest family photos shared to Instagram over the weekend, it appears Luca is already showing love to his little sister.

In King’s post, she and her daughter can be seen wearing colorful dresses with baby Grayson sitting between them. Other images show Luca smiling at his grandmother as she holds Grayson, the whole family posing together and Luca staring proudly at his newborn sister.

Several fans and friends celebrated along with King, including Maria Shriver, Tina Knowles and CBS' Vladimir Duthiers. Knowles wished King a happy Mother's Day in the comment section of the images, calling her an "amazing mother" and adding: "Love you, Gayle.❤️"

It's been a major year so far for the King family, as back in February, the journalist shared that her son William was officially engaged to Elise Smith. In an Instagram post at the time, King took fans "behind the scenes of the proposal," in which she got a little help from pal Oprah Winfrey while orchestrating the moment.

“It has happened! Favorite son @willgb3 has found his person,” King wrote in the caption, “and I now have a favorite daughter-in-law to be: The lovely @elisemariesmith!”

King added that “a lot of planning went into this moment” — before joking “there were a lot of cooks in the kitchen.”
