Gayle King responds after Fox News host mistakes her for Robin Roberts

On The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, CBS This Morning co-host Gayle King responded to being mistaken for Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts.

Just hours after King’s segment with R. Kelly aired Wednesday morning, panelists on Fox News’s The Five praised King for remaining stoic throughout the explosive interview. Co-host Jesse Watters attempted to do the same, but instead made a bit of a mix up.

“I agree,” Watters said, “hats off to Gayle King for totally redeeming herself after the Smollett fiasco.”

Watters was of course referring to the interview Roberts did with actor Jussie Smollett, which took place before the police charged him with filing a false report about being the victim of an alleged hate crime. The Five co-host Dana Perino immediately corrected Watters, so the first thing King did was reach out to her.

“I emailed Dana, who I don’t know,” King said. “I got her email and I said, ‘Hi, I just wanted to thank you for letting your colleague know that Robin Roberts and I, it was a great compliment, but thank you for letting him know that we’re two different people.’” King followed that with a request for Perino, writing, “And could you let the rest of your colleagues know that all black people do not look alike? Could you please just share that?”

Colbert added, “It’s good to remind them every so often.”

The Late Show With Stephen Colbert airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on CBS.
