Following his recent performance of his latest album, On Top Of The Covers (Live From The Sun Rose), it appears that T-Pain has gained a new fan in Gavin DeGraw.

DeGraw, 46, praised the multifaceted artist after seeing his cover of “I Don’t Want To Be.” He responded to the performance by tweeting, “Love it man!”

The record stems from DeGraw’s debut album, Chariot, and rose to popularity after becoming the theme song on the hit show, One Tree Hill.

The newly-minted legend—per the 2023 Soul Train Awards—shared that the recent performance was a “holiday gift” to his fans.

“For all the people who wanted an album of me singing live, this is my holiday gift to you. For the Tiny Desk & Masked Singer fans & everyone in between, you ain’t heard nothing yet. Thank you all for supporting me through this wild journey,” he wrote.

On the new live album, T-Pain covers classics including Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me,” Luther Vandross’ “Never Too Much,” Montell Jordan’s “This Is How We Do It,” Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come,” and his own timeless gem, “Buy U A Drank.”

The original On Top of the Covers album was released back in March, but the LP was “years in the making.”

He shared in a statement, “It got put on hold for a bit, but now that I’m independent. I’m able to do whatever I want to do through Nappy Boy Entertainment and this is something I’ve felt strongly about for a long time. These songs are not what you’d expect when you hear that T-Pain is doing a covers album and that is what I think is cool about it.”

Fans first began to acknowledge T-Pain’s impressive vocal range after he won the first season of The Masked Singer. Since then, they’ve been demanding more from Teddy Penderazzdown and less autotune.
