Gaston County Schools students get their schedule for next school year
Students in Gaston County Schools will start classes Aug. 17, end them on May 24, and take end-of-semester exams before the Christmas break next school year, based on a 2022-2023 calendar the school board approved unanimously.
The approved calendar offers 85 instruction days during the first semester and 89 instruction days in the second semester.
Similar to the current year's calendar, students are scheduled to take first semester exams in December, before winter break. In past years, Gaston County students would not end the first semester until mid-January, leading to complaints from students and parents about coursework needing to be done over the Christmas break.
Christmas and New Year's Day both fall on a Sunday this year, giving students a 12-day winter break, starting Thursday, Dec. 22, and not returning to class until Monday, Jan. 9.
Spring break will be from Friday, April 7, until Friday, April 14, 2023.
Graduation Day will be on Friday, May 26, 2023.
The calendar doesn’t apply to Gaston Early College High School.
