The family of British TV food personality and host Gary Rhodes has issued a statement about his sudden death, which was announced Wednesday.

Something Happened While Filming

Rhodes' family says Rhodes suffered a subdural hematoma and a bleed on the brain while taking a break from filming a new show, which was to air on ITV.

The show was to be one of his first solo projects in a while; production has been halted in light of the tragedy.

'No Other Details'

The family writes:

“In order to end painful speculation surrounding the sudden passing of our beloved Gary Rhodes OBE, the Rhodes family can confirm that after a successful day shooting with Rock Oyster Media for ITV here in Dubai, Gary returned home in a very happy mood for a peaceful evening with his wife Jennie.

After dinner, Gary unfortunately collapsed in their residence and was rushed to hospital but unfortunately passed away due to subdural hematoma. At this time, there are no other details and the family would again request privacy around this very tragic loss and again, thank friends and family for their ongoing support at this time.”

Star Chef Well Known In the U.S., England

Rhodes is known for appearing on shows like the British and American version of "MasterChef," and appeared on ITV's "Hell's Kitchen" in 2005.

Rhodes published nearly 20 cookbooks, and got his first Michelin star in 1996.
