Gary Oldman, 65, Looks Unrecognizable with Long Gray French Braid at the 2024 Golden Globes

The actor debuted a new look at the award show, where he received a nod for his role in AppleTV+ series 'Slow Horses'

Gary Oldman switched up his look for the Golden Globes!

At the Sunday award show, the Harry Potter actor, 65, became an unexpected red carpet highlight by accessorizing his simple black suit with a bow tie and vintage-inspired aviator sunglasses — and pulling his long, gray tresses back into a sleek style.

Describing his look to Deadline before the ceremony, Oldman said, “It’s a French braid!”

Nominated for best performance by a male actor in a drama series for Slow Horses, Oldman also revealed to the outlet that the AppleTV+ series’ fifth season begins shooting in February, and added that working on the show “keeps me off the streets” at “my age.”

Oldman previously told Deadline in May 2022 that after the spy thriller series concludes, the end of his acting career may come sooner rather than later.

The actor, who plays Jackson Lamb in the show, told the outlet he “could see myself playing Jackson for the next how many years.”

Added Oldman: "So, if it were to go out with a bang, I mean, retirement is on the horizon. Yeah. I can see it."

Though Oldman tends to keep things quite tame on the red carpet, he is no stranger to undergoing intense style transformations for roles.

The star won an Oscar for his chameleon-like transformation — which took 200 hours of makeup work, per Deadline — into Winston Churchill for Darkest Hour, and more recently, looked unrecognizable as Harry S. Truman in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.

Though it did not require an intense transformation, one of his most iconic roles was the Harry Potter franchise’s Sirius Black, which he reflected on in December.

On Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast, Oldman called his portrayal of the beloved character — whose iconic hair is about as long as his own is now — "mediocre.” He said, “Maybe if I had read the books like [Alan Rickman], if I had got ahead of the curve, if I had known what's coming, I honestly think I would have played it differently."
