​​Garth Brooks Gets Emotional Talking About His Gratitude for Wife Trisha Yearwood: 'She Makes It Fun'

The country singer got teary-eyed as he discussed his wife on Monday's episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show

Garth Brooks is thankful for his wife!

The country superstar, 61, got emotional as he spoke about his wife Trisha Yearwood while appearing on The Kelly Clarkson Show Monday.

When asked by host Kelly Clarkson what he’s grateful for and if his family goes big for Thanksgiving, Brooks said on the show, "Yeah, well, when you’re married to one of the greatest cooks on the planet,” as he referred to Yearwood, 59.

“Well, we’ll talk about how great of a singer she is,” he added with a laugh as he continued to praise his other half. “That’s probably five and six on her list of top 10 things to do.”

“When it comes to the future, I think what you’re just grateful for is just one more day, right? Of getting to do this,” Brooks told Clarkson, 41.

“So I think that’s it," he shared, getting teary-eyed. "What I’d love to say is the day I take my last breath on this planet, I’d love for my three girls to be around me and I’d love for the queen to be around me."

Brooks is dad to daughters Taylor, 31, August, 29, and Allie, 27, whom he shares with ex-wife Sandy Mahl. (The two college sweethearts married in 1986 and separated in 1999, before finalizing their divorce in 2001.)

The father of three added in his interview with Clarkson, “But as far as Miss Yearwood … you know, I’ve said this before, I found her in the past life, I’ll find her in the next.”

“She makes it fun. She makes it really fun,” Brooks said.

“It is amazing though. It’s such a beautiful love between the two of you, it is,” Clarkson told him. “And you’re tearing up and you’re making me tear up, and my makeup artist is gonna kill me ... ”

“I’m not tearing up!” insisted Brooks, who still appeared teary-eyed and let out a sniffle.

“Yeah, you are! I love it,” Clarkson teased.

Brooks and Yearwood met in 1987 as young artists in a recording session in Nashville. The pair became best friends and collaborators for the next 13 years as they performed together, and were featured on each other’s albums before they eventually married in December 2005.

Last month, the pair collaborated on another project for a charitable cause as they hosted the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project, where they built 27 affordable homes for single families in Charlotte, North Carolina. 

Speaking on how they got involved with the organization, Yearwood told PEOPLE, “After [Hurricane Katrina], we fell in love with Habitat for Humanity. We knew we loved the Carters and we fell more in love with them just getting a chance to work alongside them. We love what Habitat for Humanity is about: spreading love. It is about creating community.”

“They’ve inspired us in a lot of ways, in the ways you expect: humanity, humbleness, work ethic. But they’ve also inspired us by their example as husband and wife,” Brooks explained. “We worked beside them for the last 15 years, and you notice right away they bicker back and forth about the right way to do things. That kind of works for us too!”

Rosalynn, a lifelong advocate for mental health and human rights, died surrounded by family on Sunday, two days after she entered hospice care following a dementia diagnosis in May. She was 96.
