A lasagna-loving feline is returning to the big screen next year. Sony Pictures released The Garfield Movie trailer Monday, giving fans their first look at Chris Pratt’s version of the beloved orange feline. The trailer begins with a hungry, wide-eyed young Garfield stumbling across a man sitting by himself in a pizza parlor. When the man invites him in, they end up sharing a bite of pizza — and if you know Garfield, you know it didn’t end there. The one bite leads to a montage of Garfield devouring the rest of the pie, pasta, a batch of cookies, and breadsticks.

“And that’s how I adopted Jon,” the fat cat exclaims. “Oh, I apologize in advance. The eating you’re about to see will not be pretty. And if you have young children, this would be a good time for them to leave the room.”

Along with eating an alarming amount of food, Garfield finds himself on a new adventure when he reunites with furry father, voiced by Samuel L. Jackson, and together (along with his canine companion Odie, of course), they leave their lasagna-filled abodes to join Vic on a high-stakes heist.

The film is based on the Garfield created by Jim Davis. Bill Murray has previously played America’s fat cat in Garfield: The Movie in 2004 and Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties in 2006. The film marks Pratt’s latest animated turn, following his role as Mario in Universal Pictures, The Super Mario Bros.

The animated picture will head to theaters on May 24, 2024, and will include cast members Hannah Waddingham, Ving Rhames, Nicholas Hoult, Cecily Strong, Harvey Guillén, Brett Goldstein, and Bowen Yang.

The film is directed by Mark Dindal (Emperor’s New Groove, Chicken Little), and Paul A. Kaplan, Mark Torgove, and David Reynolds created the screenplay.
