GARDNER – The Gardner Fish and Gun Club will celebrate the 100th year of its founding with a special members event on June 25.

The club has provided the greater Gardner area with a community for fishing and hunting sports enthusiasts since 1922. The club last celebrated an anniversary in 1972 for its 50th anniversary.

Erik Storm, the current president of the Gardner Fish and Gun club, said this celebration is designed to bring club members together to honor the club’s mission, which is to bring local people together to hone their wilderness skills.

“Our big accomplishment for this club is just giving people a place to practice their nature skills,” Storm said. “This is a place where local folks can get together and plan fishing trips and hunting trips.”

The club also has annual members' golf, fishing, darts and pool leagues, according to its website.  The club is set on more than 100 acres, with hiking trails, a large field, a pond, archery range, trap range and rifle range.

Storm stated that one of the club's goals for the next couple of years is to provide more firearms education for the community to end the taboo that comes with guns. The club already holds license to carry courses and collaborates with local Boy Scouts troops to host wilderness education activities.

“We want to be around for another 100 years, and we want to keep educating people about guns, fishing and hunting,” Storm said. “We understand the stigma of how bad guns are and if we could do more education over the next few years that would be super.”

The celebration will start at 6 p.m. with a cocktail hour, then dinner will be served following speeches by notable members of the club. Finally, there will be a performance from a hypnotist magician. Storm emphasized that the celebration event will be casual and there is no need to dress up.

“Following up the hypnotist magician performance, local club folks are going to have time to celebrate the 100th anniversary with each other,” Storm said.

The dinner event is by membership invite-only, but the club is always open to anyone who is interested in learning more about gun safety and the practice of hunting and fishing. The Gardner Fish and Gun Club is located at 538 Clark St., Gardner. For more information and a membership application, visit http://www.gardnerfishandgunclub.com/ .
