Garaway girls second, Carrollton boys third at OHSAA state golf championships

The Garaway girls golf team concluded the season as the runner-up at the OHSAA Division II state championship on Saturday at Ohio State Golf Club's Gray Course.

The Pirates, who finished sixth in the state in 2021, shot a 36-hole team score of 670 to finish behind only Gahanna Columbus Academy, which scored 647.

Independence was the third-place team with 691.

Garaway junior Sammi Miller paced the team with a third-place finish. Miller shot 76-79–155, just three shots behind medalist Ella Wong of Gates Mills Hawken (76-76–152). Riley McKenzie of Crooksville was second with 79-74–153. Miller is a first team All-Ohioan as a result of her weekend.

Also for Garaway, Brooklyn Numbers (84-83–167) tied for 16th place, Sydny Prysi (94-79–173) tied for 28th, Olivia Immel (88-92–180) tied for 36th and Hannah Steiner (89-94–183) was 41st. All of the Pirates are juniors.

Garaway sophomore Trace Gibson earns All-Ohio status in boys golf

Garaway sophomore Trace Gibson, making his first state tournament appearance, finished seventh at the Division III boys golf state championship at Northstar Golf Club in Sunbury.

Gibson shot an 83 on Friday before firing a 75 on Saturday to finish with a 158 total and tied with Tanner Conklin of Troy Christian.

Rocco Turner of Youngstown Cardinal Mooney was the tournament medalist with 74-71–145.

Cincinnati Seven Hills won the team championship with a score of 659, with Newark Catholic (664) and Delphos St. John's (676) finishing second and third, respectively.

Carrollton boys third, Connor Ritter 12th in Division II

The Carrollton boys golf team finished third place in the final standings at the Division II state golf championship at Ohio State Golf Club's Scarlet Course on Saturday.

An all-senior team, the Warriors finished with a team score of 653 to finish behind champion Kettering Alter (618) and runner-up Gahanna Columbus Academy (634).

Davis Gochenouer of Kettering Alter was the medalist with 72-76–148.

Jaxon Rinkes earned All-Ohio status and led the Warriors with rounds of 75-80 for a 155 total. Also for Carrollton, Colton Moore (76-84–160) was 14th, John Birong (84-81–165) tied for 21st, Cayden Rininger (86-87–173) tied for 34th and Micah Barkan (91-87–178) tied for 42nd.

Sandy Valley senior Connor Ritter, the defending state champion medalist, shot 82-77–159 and tied for 12th place
