‘Games Divas Play’: Lauren London, Parker McKenna Posey & Karen Obilom To Star In Tracey Edmonds’ BET Drama Series

EXCLUSIVE: Former The Game star Lauren London, My Wife and Kids alumna Parker McKenna Posey and Karen Obilom (Insecure, NCIS: New Orleans) are set as the three leads in Games Divas Play (working title), BET’s hour-long scripted drama series from executive producer Tracey Edmonds. Production on the 10-episode season began November 29 in Los Angeles. The drama is set to premiere in 2019.

Based on the popular book of the same name by Angela Burt-Murray, Games Divas Play (wt) is a sexy, stylized drama about the L.A. high life, where everyone plays to win. A desperate basketball wife (London) trying to protect her family, a tenacious journalist (Obilom) struggling to rebuild a tarnished career, and a scandalous groupie (Posey) looking to become a star, find it’s murder trying to stay on top.

London’s Vanessa King is a loyal yet skeptical wife, who married her high school sweetheart as he was being drafted into the nation’s premiere professional basketball league. Her lifestyle changed overnight as they went from college sweethearts to a power couple astride a world of money, easy sex, and glamour.

Posey’s Laila James is a cunning and alluring, yet struggling actress. When she realizes that she’s never going to get ahead based on pure talent, she decides to embrace her sexy, flashy side to get ahead on social media. She finds that in LA, fame is the ultimate drug.

Obilom’s Nia Bullock is a quick-witted, smart and savvy blogger, who gets a new job that she thinks is going to launch her long-dreamed-of journalism career. But as it turns out, this new job pulls her into the world of celebrity gossip – big names, high stakes, and never-ending scandal.

Games Divas Play (wt) is executive produced by Tracey Edmonds of Edmonds Entertainment, along with author Angela Burt-Murray. Emmy nominee Vanessa Middleton (SNL, Cosby, Girlfriends) wrote the pilot and will serve as executive producer and co-showrunner; Kim Newton (Gotham, The Blacklist, Cold Case) joins Middleton as executive producer and co-showrunner.

London starred in BET’s hit series The Game for two seasons. Other credits include films This Christmas, Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Big Happy Family, I Love You, Beth Cooper; The Perfect Match; as well as television series HBO’s Entourage, 90210 and Single Ladies. London is repped by CAA and Flavor Unit.

Posey is known for her starring role on sitcom My Wife and Kids opposite Damon Wayans and Tisha Campbell. Her other recent credits include FX’s Snowfall. She’s repped by Abrams Artists Agency and Electric Republic.

Obilom was most recently seen in guest-starring roles on Insecure, NCIS: New Orleans, NCIS: L.A. and Medal of Honor. She’s repped by Abrams Artists Agency and ATN Entertainment.

Edmonds, CEO and President of Edmonds Entertainment, recently exited ExtraTV, where she earned an Emmy Award while serving as co-host alongside Mario Lopez and Charissa Thompson for 3 years. As a producer, Edmonds’ past projects include the hit series Deion’s Family Playbook (OWN); three-time NAACP Image Award nominated With This Ring (Lifetime); and Showtime’s Soul Food based on the film, which ran for five seasons and won multiple NAACP Image Awards, including Outstanding Drama Series three years in a row.
