'Game of Thrones' season finale recap: Everything we've been waiting for happened

The Season 7 finale of Game of Thrones was exciting for so many reasons! It started off with the most awkward family reunion ever, as almost all of the major characters met in the Dragon Pit. And while everyone wanted to kill one another, they had much worse things to worry about.

To truce or not to truce? That is the question

The Hound opened up a crate and the wight they captured came out running out toward Cersei before the Hound grabbed the chain and pulled it back. Cersei was clearly freaked out by the wight and agreed to the truce with Daenerys, on one condition — when the war against the dead is over, Jon Snow has stay out of Cersei and Daenerys’s fight. Jon couldn’t do that, saying, “I cannot serve two queens, and I have already pledged myself to Queen Daenerys of House Targaryen.”

Cersei left the negotiations, but Tyrion followed and ended up talking his sister into joining the fight — or so they thought. It turned out that she had no intentions of joining her enemies, but Jaime did, and after Cersei threatened to have the Mountain kill him, Jaime left King’s Landing … possibly for good.

A little death in Winterfell

Meanwhile, there was some sneaky stuff going on in Winterfell. It appeared that Sansa was putting Arya on trial for murder and treason, but she pulled the ol’ switcharoo at the last second. Sansa said, “You stand accused of murder. You stand accused of treason. How do you answer these charges. … Lord Baelish?” Littlefinger was, obviously, shocked by the turn of events. He then pleaded with Sansa as she, Bran, and Arya pointed out all the shady things he had done to their family. And with Littlefinger on his knees begging, Arya walked up and slit his throat with his own dagger.

Incest is the in-best!

But the biggest thing to happen in the season finale was when Sam and Bran (aka the Three-Eyed Raven) figured out that not only is Jon Snow not Ned’s son, he’s not even a bastard. Bran was able to see Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark‘s secret wedding, and realized that Robert’s Rebellion was built on a lie. He also found out what Lyanna said to Ned on her death bed. Lyanna told him, “His name is Aegon Targaryen. You have to protect him.” All that was happening while Jon (aka Aegon) was finally hooking up with his Aunt Daenerys. As Jon and Daenerys were making love, Bran’s voice was heard saying, “He’s never been a bastard. He’s the heir to the Iron Throne.”

Wall schmall … wights wealk south

But there may not be an Iron Throne to sit on for long because the Night King and his dead dragon torched the crap out of the wall with some sort of blue fire. And the season ended with the Army of the Dead marching past the Wall, setting up Season 8’s Great War.

Game of Thrones airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on HBO.
