‘Game of Thrones’: Peter Dinklage Shares ‘Very Sad’ Reaction to His Final Day Shooting
Peter Dinklage won the 2018 Emmy Award for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series, his third trophy for playing Tyrion Lannister on HBO’s fantasy epic “Game of the Thrones.” The actor will have one last chance to win for the series next year, as “Thrones” will air its final season in the first half of 2019. Dinklage has already wrapped production on the series.
“It was very sad,” Dinklage said backstage at the Emmys when asked about his final day on set. “This is not only a great TV show to be a part of, but it was an enormous family to be a part of.”

“I was far from home,” he continued. “I live in New York and we shot the show in Europe, so many times I had to stay there and couldn’t go home on the weekends and really developed deep roots in the community of Ireland and some of the other countries we shot in.”
Dinklage added it was “definitely hard to say goodbye to because it wasn’t just saying goodbye to the show, [it] was saying goodbye to a life over there.” The actor has been playing Tyrion since the pilot episode of “Game of Thrones,” which premiered in 2011.
The final season of “Game of Thrones” will consist of six episodes. The series returns in 2019.
