‘Game of Thrones': Does Maisie Williams’ Bloody Farewell Message Reveal Arya’s Final Fate?

Has the bell finally tolled for Arya Stark? Or will she end “Game of Thrones” in triumph?

On Saturday, Maisie Williams, who plays the face-shifting heroine on the beloved HBO series, posted a cryptic image of bloody shoes to Instagram with a note informing fans that she was leaving the “GoT” set in Belfast for the final time.

“Goodbye belfast. goodbye arya. goodbye game of thrones. what a joy i’ve had. here’s to the adventures to come #lastwomanstanding #barely #immasleepforthenextfouryears,” she wrote.

Reacting to her Instagram comments, fans were divided, with some bemoaning what looked like a bloody ending for the popular character. Others latched onto the #LastWomanStanding hashtag to hold out hope that Arya will triumph and kill her arch-nemesis, Cersei Lannister.

No matter what, it’s clear that whatever happens will involve a lot of blood.

One of the last remaining survivors of Season 1 — along with her sister, Sansa — Arya Stark is the daughter of the doomed Lord of Winterfell, Eddard Stark. Since her father’s death at the end of Season 1, her character has been taken hostage by Sir Sandor Clegane, learned the shape shifting ways of the many-faced god, and exacted terrible revenge for the red wedding (and Littlefinger’s machinations).

A final showdown with Cersei, whose affair with brother Jamie ignited the series of events which powered the series, is almost certainly inevitable. But what the future holds is anyone’s guess.
