Game of Thrones documentary reveals moment cast discovered Arya's Night King moment

HBO’s Game of Thrones documentary The Last Watch revealed the precise moment the cast discovered Arya would kill the Night King.

The behind-the-scenes footage from the table read shows actors including Sophie Turner, Kit Harington and Maisie Williams herself responding to the moment as it’s read out by producer Bryan Cogman.

Cogman says: “He stops before Bran and raises his sword to strike, but something is hurtling towards him out of the darkness: Arya. She plunges the dagger up through the Night King’s armour. The Night King shatters.”

Just like viewers did when they watched the moment play out on screen, the show’s stars – also including Rory McCann (The Hound) and Isaac Hempstead-Wright (Bran Stark) – all cheered the moment as Williams performed a little dance.

Despite her excitement, Williams was quite candid about thinking fans would hate the twist.

This wasn’t the only secret footage fans got to glimpse. Later in the special, which aired one week after the show came to a close, viewers witnessed Harington’s emotional reaction to learning his character Jon Snow would kill Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) in the finale.

Directed by Jeanie Finlay, The Last Watch deals with the making of the final season, drawing on Finlay’s experiences while being on the set for a year.

It also offers “unprecedented access” to the cast and crew on the series.
