‘Game of Thrones’ Recap: A Character Returns and a Stark Gets Stabbed

Another character who was presumed dead returned to Game of Thrones this week — this time it was Sandor Clegane, known as the Hound. In a rare cold-open, fans got to see the infamous Hound for the first time since Season 4, when Arya left him for dead after a brutal fight with Brienne of Tarth.

The Hound was saved by Brother Ray (played by Deadwood star Ian McShane), who found him days after his battle with Brienne of Tarth. But their friendship didn’t last long, because at the end of the episode the Hound came back from gathering firewood to find Brother Ray hanging from the structure they were building.

Another relationship that might not last long is Queen Margaery’s with the High Sparrow. While many fans were afraid that she was lost to the Faith, Margaery hinted otherwise when she sneaked a note to her grandmother. The note was simply a rose, which is House Tyrell’s sigil, signifying that she might not be done fighting for her family.

Meanwhile, Yara Greyjoy fought to get Theon out of his Reek depression and informed him that they were sailing to Meeren to make a pact with the “Dragon Queen.” The Blackfish told the King Slayer that he was willing to fight to save Riverrun. And Jon Snow and Sansa fought to keep the Stark name alive by trying to get other prominent houses of the North to join them.

The most upsetting moment came at the end, when Arya was stabbed by Waif. The youngest Stark girl escaped into a river. Arya was last seen stumbling and bleeding through the streets of Bravos, seeking help.
