Galentine's Day in Beaver County brings vendor pop-ups, beverages, giveaways & more fun
BEAVER ― Hey ladies, get ready for the Galentine's Block Party taking place Feb. 11 in the Beaver Business District.
Third Street retailers will offer special food, drinks, music, shopping and activities from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. that Sunday.
It's a chance to check out Anam Cara, the classy new event loft at 455 Third St., where the Galentine’s Day party will be complete "with great games, fab pops of pink, a DIY Friendship Bracelet Bar, a DJ and more."
Artistically appointed with furniture fit for a swank Manhattan apartment, Anam Cara's third-floor location offers a modern, minimalist space with an urban lounge feel, and will offer a great vantagepoint of the bustling street below.
Home decor/modern gifts store Cord+Iron, orchestrators of this local event, issued this invitation to the public: "Ladies! Grab your 'Ride or Die' and join us for an epic Galentine’s Block Party in downtown Beaver. Many stores and businesses will be open and have in-store promotions, giveaways, special vendor pop ups (including tiny tattoos, permanent jewelry, piercings, facials, and more.)
Confirmed participants: Cord+Iron, Rooks Plants, Lush Distinctions, Beavtown, Wildwood Boutique, Boutique 443, Don’s Deli, Row Press, Union Skate, Pizza Joes Sangha Center Yoga, Bonnets & Buttons, Wags on 3rd, Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop, Shirley Shoppe, Anam Cara Philly Originals and Kathleen’s on 3rd Boutique.
Boutique 443 is offering complimentary mini massages and a gift with purchases, plus sweets and bubbly drinks.
Grandpa Joe's Candy Shop will have buy one-get-one Belgian truffles; Rooks Plants will pour gourmet coffee.
Wag's on 3rd will have chocolate-covered strawberries and a fill-your-bag with 15 percent off deals. Kathleen's on 3rd will have a flower bar and food tastings.
Wildwood Boutique's in-store promotions include a swag bag given to all customers making a $75 purchase.
Galentine’s Day gets celebrated nationally on Feb. 13 or any weekend day right before Valentine's Day.
Galentine's Day originated from a 2010 episode of NBC's "Parks & Recreation" when the Leslie Knope character played by Emmy Award-nominated actress Amy Poehler imagined a counterpoint day to Valentine's Day where women celebrate their friendship.
Cosmopolitan magazine has come up with as good a definition as any: "Galentine’s Day is the friendship version of V-Day − a day all about celebrating the platonic love between the women and non-binary people (and friends of all genders, really) in your life."
Galentine's in Ambridge, New Brighton
Ambridge's neighboring businesses Harkins Mill Wines and Slurp-N-Burst Boba Tea also are spearheading a Galentine's celebration from 4-9 p.m. Feb. 9. That party will include live music from "American Idol's" Morgan Gruber at 7-9 p.m. at the winery, plus thrifted, vintage shopping at the Born Again Bohemian Boutique pop-up, tinsel hair extensions from Kerry's Fairy Hair and jewelry from B-Linked.

New Brighton's business district celebrates Galentine's Day from 5-9 p.m. Feb. 10, with pop-ups and special events, like a dance party at the Slurp-N-Burst Boba Tea on Third Avenue, martinis at The Blue Marble and Chocolate Cherry Stout beer at Bullseye Brewing.
The event lineup includes Kerry's Fairy Hair, B-Linked Permanent Jewelry, Born Again Bohemian Boutique,Little Bear and Bean Boutique, Polly's Gift Boutique, Golden Goose Boutique, Mila Jai Boutique, Revive Day Spa, Busy Bee Gifts, Quality Time & Carry Out, Sprig of Rue, Kitchen Witch Bakery, One Sweet Cookie, Windy Hill Bakehouse,Kaye's Mac-a-lectible Macaroons, Harkins Mill Wines, Catie's Collections and An Affordable Boutique.
