It’s been over eight months since reports surfaced that the Patty Jenkins-directed Wonder Woman 3 had been scrapped. Now, Wonder Woman herself, Gal Gadot, has claimed that she will be reprising her role in the third entry in the franchise while also being involved with co-developing the film with DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran.

“I love portraying Wonder Woman… it’s so close to and dear to my heart,” Gadot told ComicBook.com, before addressing the possibility of a third film. “What I heard from James and from Peter is that we’re gonna develop a Wonder Woman 3 together.”

Gunn and Safran were named the heads of DC Studios last October, and have since then unveiled a massive road map to overhaul the DC Universe. The duo has an ambitious plan to roll out two films and two TV series per year. There’s been much speculation about whether Gadot would return as Wonder Woman. In January, Gunn and Safran said the door would remain open for Gadot to play the role, but her cameo in The Flash was cut, as was an appearance by Superman actor Henry Cavill, who will not reprise his role in the future.

Still, there have been some signs that Gadot’s position is safe. Her cameo in The Flash might have been cut, but she did still appear as Wonder Woman in Shazam: Fury of the Gods earlier this year. Now, with confirmation that she’s at least “heard” that she’ll be involved in the development of a new film, it’s looking more likely that Gadot will continue her reign as DC’s most-beloved Amazon.

Elsewhere in the ComicBook.com interview, Gadot shared some insight into the recent screen tests for the upcoming Superman: Legacy, which ultimately resulted in David Corenswet getting cast as Clark Kent, replacing Cavill. News about who officially had landed the role wasn’t out yet at the time of the interview, but that didn’t stop Gadot from offering well-wishes.

“I saw that they were testing, doing different screen tests, but I don’t know who got it, but it seemed like everyone was super legit and talented and, like, great,” she said. “So I’m happy for them. It’s such a huge take-on and it’s such an exciting beginning to any actor, and I wish whoever it’s going to be the best of luck and enjoy the ride.”

More details about what to expect from Wonder Woman 3 have yet to be released, but it’s a good reminder to recall that DC Studios’ parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, isn’t afraid to scrap projects.
