Gaelic Storm, Trivia Night and HER Day top can't-miss events in Oshkosh

OSHKOSH — For more than 20 years, Gaelic Storm has entertained audiences, and they make their way to The Grand Oshkosh March 3.

Also coming this week are several chances to help raise funds for local groups. The events include a trivia contest, a brunch, a HER Day and a Prohibition Ball.

Here are your can't-miss events.

1. Gaelic Storm brings their Celtic music to The Grand

Celtic band Gaelic Storm comes to The Grand Oshkosh March 3. The show begins at 7 p.m. at The Grand, 100 High Ave.

Gaelic Storm takes a hard-nose approach to touring, consistently traveling the U.S. and internationally for more than 200 days a year. The group has performed more than 2,000 shows over two decades.

Their latest release is Go Climb a Tree, with co-founders of Gaelic Storm, Steve Twigger and Patrick Murphy, along with longtime friend and co-writer Steve Wehmever, at the helm of song-writing duties.

In 2022, fiddler Natalya Kay joined the group.

2. Trivia Night is March 1, to benefit OASD Foundation

Oshkosh Area School District Education Foundation’s 10th Annual Trivia Night will be March 1 at the Oshkosh Convention Center, 2 N. Main St.

Doors open at 6 p.m. with trivia beginning at 7 p.m. This year’s costume theme is metal. Prizes will be awarded to first, second and best costume.

Registration is $160 per team, with a maximum of eight people per team. Register online at bit.ly/OASD-trivia2024.

3. Brunch fundraiser to benefit schools in Uganda

A Women’s Brunch fundraiser is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. March 2 at Becket’s, 2 Jackson St. Organizers have partnered with local non-profit organization Sunshine Uganda, which works to improve schools in Uganda. The goal of the event is to raise enough money to cover all the costs Sunshine Uganda needs to build a kindergarten classroom.

Included in a donation is a brunch buffet. Cost is $40 per person or $200 per table. Register in advance at SunshineUganda.com under "One Time donation," then enter $40 or $200. Payment also can be accepted via Venmo @sunshineuganda.

There also will be a silent auction. Entertainment will be provided by The Divine Voices of the Valley, followed by motivational speaker Jacklyn Brubaker. Melissa Troedel will then present the mission of Sunshine Uganda.

4. HER Day includes speaker event, Herd game at Oshkosh Arena

We EmpowHER will host HER Day March 2 at the Oshkosh Arena. The event will run 12:45 to 4 p.m. at the arena, 1212 S. Main St.

Influential speakers from across the state will share their expertise and stories to support and uplift women, and there will be a variety of breakout sessions from which to choose. Admission is free.

Also taking place that night, the Wisconsin Herd will change its name to Wisconsin HER. The basketball team will face the Maine Celtics at 6 p.m. at the arena.

The team will wear special jerseys showing the name change. A portion of ticket sales will be donated to We EmpowHER.

5. Prohibition Ball is fundraiser for Fox Valley Veterans Council

The Fox Valley Veterans Council will host a Veterans Prohibition Ball March 7. The event begins at 6 p.m. at Venue 404, 404 N. Main St. This is black-tie or 1920s attire event and open to adults 21 and older.

This is an all-inclusive event, with food, drinks, entertainment including jazz music, dancing, a historical reenactor, and casino tables. The guest speaker is retired Master Sgt. Brian Eisch, featured in the Netflix documentary, "Father, Soldier, Son."

Standard tickets include open bar, hors d’oeuvres, jazz music by Kate Voss and the Water City Jazz Orchestra, speaker Brian Eisch, and casino games.

VIP tickets also include valet parking, exclusive access to prohibition vault open bar, top-shelf liquor (including signature drink “The Dog Father”) and extra casino chips.

The council provides emergency funding for basic needs to area veterans, those still serving, their dependents and survivors.
