Gabrielle Union Shares New Photo With Stepdaughter Zaya & It’s Clear They Have the Sweetest Bond

Gabrielle Union shared the sweetest post on Mother’s Day, expressing just how much she loves being a mom. “There’s no greater hood than motherhood if you ask me!” she captioned a carousel of photos on Instagram. There’s a mix of photos and videos of her with her 5-year-old daughter Kaavia, and her step-kids and step-nephew — Zaya, Zaire, Xavier, and Dahveon — whom she shares with husband Dwyane Wade.
“Having the privilege to play a part in these young lives that surround me has humbled and enlightened me in ways words cannot explain,” the actress continued her caption. “Sometimes I ask myself, ‘How did I get so lucky?’ Nonetheless, thank you for teaching me patience, kindness, and love. You’ve forever changed me for the better.”

The photo that tugged at our heartstrings the most was the final shot in the carousel. It’s a breathtaking photo of Union and Zaya. The two are dressed to a T (When are they not?!) and staring into each other’s eyes with huge smiles on their faces.
They really have the sweetest stepmom-stepdaughter relationship. Last year, Union was moved to tears watching the then-15-year-old make her Paris Fashion Week runway debut. (No. Big. Deal.) And Union has repeatedly spoken out in support of transgender rights after her stepdaughter came out.
When Union and Wade were honored at the NAACP Image Awards for their work advocating for the rights of the LGBTQ community, Union shared “a couple of hard truths.”
“First, the intersection of Black rights and the rights of the LGBTQIA, trans, and gender non-conforming people continues to be a huge understatement, even as we demand equality at the top of our lungs,” she said, “we consistently fail to extend our advocacy to protect some of our most vulnerable among us.”
“And second, Black trans people are being targeted, terrorized, and hunted in this country. Every day, everywhere. And there’s rarely a whisper about.”
Well, the Union-Wade family is not one to whisper. And the proud parents always shout about just how much they care for their kids. Even if those shouts sometimes come in the form of a loving gaze and the biggest smiles.
