Gabrielle Union dragged for 'double standard' over Gwen Stefani costume — but people are missing 1 huge point

It’s Halloween, which means a handful of celebrities will offend the masses with their costumes. (Here’s looking at you, Shaun White.) But for some reason, “racist Twitter” — as BET dubbed it — is coming after Gabrielle Union.

Union dressed up as Gwen Stefani for her ’90s-themed 46th birthday bash, taking her inspiration from No Doubt’s music video for the 1995 single “Spiderwebs.” Saturday night’s costume party lined up perfectly with Halloween, and pretty much everyone loved her look — including Gwen Stefani.

However, some took issue with the fact that Union dressed up as a white woman, calling it a “double standard,” particularly in the wake of last week’s Megyn Kelly scandal. (Kelly had her morning show pulled from NBC after making controversial remarks about blackface as a costume.)

“White hair wig, close enough to White face #DoubleStandard. If you don’t want Black face do not and I repeat do not do White face!” one user tweeted — and deleted.

Others dragged Union with a similar argument.

People are missing one main point here — Union did not do “whiteface.” In fact, many lauded the actress for dressing up as someone from a different race without changing her skin color.

It’s really not that hard, people.
