Gabrielle Union’s Bun Looks Like the Most Beautiful Rose

When it comes to updos, nothing is more classic than a bun. It can be dressed up or down, worn high or low, sleek or messy — and never look out of style. And when it comes to flowers, nothing is more classic than roses. No matter the occasion, no matter the color, roses are timeless and always appreciated. So it's no wonder that Gabrielle Union, arbiter of all things chic, combined the two classics into a single stunning look for an elegant event.

On Thursday, April 25, Tiffany & Co. hosted a Beverly Hills celebration of their 2024 Blue Book, and the celebrities who attended were, of course, decked out in jewels, Union included. She wore a whimsical choker made with 23 carats worth of orange sapphire and rubellites, matching earrings, and a 10-carat diamond ring. But we'd argue that her unexpectedly floral hairstyle definitely competed with her oodles of gems for the spotlight.

From the front, we can see that Union's hair is pulled back tightly into a sleek, somewhat side-swept updo with nary a hair out of place.

But from the back, we get the big reveal: It's not just any bun back there. It's been intricately twisted up in such a way that it clearly resembles a rose.

It was last spring when the runways predicted that rose buns would be big. We asked Lacy Redway for her advice on achieving the lovely look, and she told us that she sections and wraps a ponytail into four parts using a transparent hair net before forming one section into a figure-eight shape and pinning each piece in place after wrapping it completely. Then, she wraps each remaining section the same way around that middle section, one at a time. After hair-spraying it, she secures the bun with bobby pins.

Whether it's a wedding, a workday, or, you know, your casual, run-of-the-mill Tiffany & Co. event, this style is clearly a new classic.
