A Georgia mother was convicted Monday on multiple charges after fatally shooting a woman and injuring a man while holding her 1-year-old child in 2020, authorities said.

After deliberating for less than an hour, a jury found Dalanna Bailey guilty of all charges including malice murder, felony murder, criminal attempt to commit murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during commission of a felony and cruelty to children, according to a statement shared by the Newton County District Attorney’s Office.

The incident took place on May 13, 2020, when a man identified by prosecutors as the father of Bailey’s 1-year-old child traveled to Bailey’s apartment complex in Covington, about 35 miles southeast of Atlanta. The man was driven to the complex by La'Peachah Nash so he could give money to Bailey for the child.

After seemingly being upset at the man’s presence in her apartment, Bailey began “yelling and screaming” while holding the pair’s child with a loaded firearm in her waistband, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Prosecutors said the man tried to get the gun from Bailey, fearing for his and the child’s safety, but she continued to “threaten him” by saying she had a round in the chamber. The man then ran towards Nash’s car and Bailey chased him.

While still holding the child, Bailey fired at least three shots into the driver side window, where Nash had been behind the wheel, prosecutors said.

Nash, 27, who was shot in the head, was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead, Fox 5 Atlanta reported, citing authorities. The man was shot in the abdomen and survived, per the outlet.

After fleeing the scene with the gun, Bailey was arrested about seven hours later at a motel in DeKalb County, according to the prosecutor’s office.

She is scheduled to be sentenced on March 7 and remains in custody.
