Funeral for Victim in Chris Soules Car Crash in the Works, Aurora, Iowa Mayor Says: He Was 'Well Known'

The funeral for the victim in the Chris Soules car crash -- 66-year-old Kenneth Mosher -- is happening next Monday, May 1, according to Aurora, Iowa mayor David Young.

ET spoke to Young following Soules and Mosher's car crash on Monday night, which resulted in Mosher's death. Soules has been charged with Leaving the Scene of a Fatality Motor Vehicle Accident.

"The funeral I heard was scheduled for next Monday," Young says. "I'm sure a lot of people [will go]. He was well known. A lot of people knew him."

Young shares that Mosher leaves behind a wife, two sons and three grandchildren.

"He was a nice guy," he says of the late Mosher. "His house was in the city limits of Aurora and his farm is probably about 700 acres. I think he and his wife and his sons started farming with him in the last few years. When he wasn't busy farming, he was usually on the golf course. You could find him there."

Young says Soules' father lived about five to six miles from where Mosher lived.

"It's in close proximity," he notes. "You've got neighbors whose farms don't touch but if you're kinda in the general area … Chris' dad lived about five to six miles from where Kenny lived -- just kind of a close proximity if you're neighbors.

A local resident, who did not wish to be identified, told ET on Tuesday that 35-year-old Soules and Mosher "knew each other," but "didn't run in the same social circle."

"Their families have been farming in this area for several generations. Both families have always lived around here," the source shared. "Kenny's 66 [years old], Chris is the age of [Kenny's] kids. They were farm neighbors [their farming land adjoined]. Not door-to-door neighbors."

"He loved farming," the source added about Mosher. "He was a wonderful grandpa. Great guy. ... The mood here is pretty somber. This doesn't happen every day. It's a rare occurrence. It's a very tragic loss."

Soules' next court date is set for Tuesday, May 2 -- a day after Mosher's funeral is apparently taking place. Soules' rep, Stan Rosenfield, said in a statement that Soules is "devastated" at Mosher's death.

"He was devastated to learn that Kenneth Mosher, the other person in the accident, passed away," the statement reads. "His thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Mosher's family."
