FSU's Braian Angola surprised by his mother flying in from Colombia for Senior Night

Florida State’s Senior Night was a misty-eyed affair for senior guard Braian Angola. While being honored before the game, the PA announcer revealed that Angola’s mother had flown in from Villanueva, Colombia and was in the arena. A stunned Angola, who left his mother and family behind to enroll at Las Vegas’ national prep powerhouse, Findlay Prep, broke down in tears as they embraced.

Leaving his family behind as a teenager is an emotional topic for Angola, who said he cried the whole week after emigrating to the States, “and probably the whole month.”

“Leaving my whole life and my family and deciding to go from a city of 15,000 people to a city of 2 million people, it was very difficult,” Angola told Noles 247. “But I know I needed to do it. For the benefit of my mom and my family.

After graduating, Angola originally went the JUCO route, where he averaged 21.4 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game for two seasons at North Idaho College. This season, Angola is averaging 12.7 points, four rebounds and 1.4 steals in 27 minutes per game this season. After earning his degree from Florida State, Angola plans to pursue a career in professional basketball and is interested in opening youth camps in his native Colombia to smooth a path for other Colombians to follow in his footsteps.
