For the first time in a while, fans are finally getting an update on Disney's Frozen 3.

The upcoming sequel to the blockbuster animated films, announced back in February, has Frozen and Frozen 2 co-director Jennifer Lee "blown away" by what she's seen so far, Lee revealed at the BFI London Film Festival this week.

“Every morning last week they carved out space for me to work with the creative team on it, and I am blown away and I am so excited,” said Lee, Disney Animation's chief creative officer, per Variety.

“I don’t know what I’m doing on it yet — I’m not doing nothing — except doing what I do now, which is we work on every project as as team and I’m in there with creative," she explained to the publication. "But with Frozen, just a little bit more.”

Lee, who manned the screenplay on both of the Frozen films so far, also opened up about her "philosophy" when it comes to movies, specifically the popular franchise.

“If there is more story to tell, the filmmakers have to drive it," she revealed in conversation with the National Film and Television School's Tricia Tuttle. "And I’ll say with Frozen, Marc Smith, who was our director of story on Frozen 2, came with an incredible idea for more Frozen, and it’s worth it.”

At the same time as the announcements for sequels to Toy Story and Zootopia, Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed in an investor call at the top of the year that another Frozen follow-up is currently "in the works."

"We'll have more to share about these productions soon, but this is a great example of how we're leaning into our unrivaled brands and franchises," Iger said at the time, per Deadline.

Iger's announcement came nearly four years after the release of 2019's Frozen 2, and nearly a decade after the franchise's initial 2013 installment. In the years since, cast members themselves have even advocated for another film in the series, including Kristen Bell, who joked on The Tonight Show in 2022 that she wanted to "officially announce, with zero authority, Frozen 3."

"Please bear in mind I did say 'zero authority,' 'cause I can't [actually announce it]. I can't do that — I'm not in charge. But there could be something in the works and something maybe happening, maybe," she said at the time.

"I'll keep it mysterious," Bell teased. "But I know Idina [Menzel] recently said she would do it, and I feel like if we're all in what are we waiting for?"

The franchise's Oscar-winning songwriters have also opened up about their reaction to the Frozen 3 announcement earlier this year, with Kristen Anderson-Lopez telling Collider that she and her husband Robert Lopez were "very excited" by the news and heard "a little bit about what they're thinking."

The initial film earned over $1 billion worldwide, as its sequel surpassed that number globally with $1.45 billion, according to Box Office Mojo. While it's since spawned short films, television specials, and a Broadway musical, fans are eagerly awaiting the continuation of the series.
