‘Frozen 2’ Release Date Moves Up a Week
The wait never bothered us anyway, but fans of the Disney animated hit “Frozen” will get to see Anna and Elsa back on the big screen a little sooner than expected.
Disney announced on Thursday that “Frozen 2” has been moved up one week, and will now hit theaters on Nov. 22, 2019. It was previously dated for Nov. 27.
Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell are reprising their roles in the highly anticipated sequel as Arendelle royalty, while Josh Gad will return as the lovable snowman Olaf. It was previously reported that Evan Rachel Wood and Sterling K. Brown are in talks to join the voice cast. Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, the filmmakers behind “Frozen,” are stepping behind the camera once again to direct. “Hidden Figures” screenwriter Allison Schroeder is penning the script with Lee.
The original animated film became a massive sensation, generating nearly $1.3 billion worldwide and winning a slew of awards, including two Oscars. It now ranks as the highest-grossing animated film of all time, as well as the 13th biggest movie ever. In 2018, it was adapted as a Broadway musical with music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, who wrote the songs for the movie.
