The Lauvers will help the nonprofit Front Page Foundation raise money for journalism and electronic media scholarships as guest bartenders at the bar and restaurant at 32 Market Square, Knoxville. Scott and Bernadette West, Scruffy City Hall’s owners, will donate a portion of each drink sold to the Foundation.

David Lauver is a freelance writer and Grammy-nominated songwriter. He was chief scriptwriter and a performer in the 40-year run of the Front Page Follies, the Foundation’s scholarship-fundraising roast of state and local newsmakers.

David worked at the Knoxville News Sentinel as a University of Tennessee student, then served as press and legislative assistant to U.S. Sen. Howard Baker; the University of Tennessee-Knoxville director of public relations; and TVA executive communications manager.

Susan Lauver was a writer and editor for newspapers in Athens and Jackson, Tennessee, before her 45-year career as a TVA communications manager.

A past president of the Volunteer Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, Susan received that group’s lifetime achievement award and other regional and national honors.

She will join Foundation board members in trying to restrain David from playing his guitar during “Pint Night” festivities.

Proceeds from Pint Night will help fund annual scholarships for students at the University of Tennessee and Pellissippi State Community College, according to Foundation president Don Lindsey.

The Front Page Foundation is a nonprofit corporation chartered in 2015 to raise funds benefiting journalism in all news media through scholarships, professional development activities, and educational programs for the public on vital issues in journalism.

Chartered with the support of the East Tennessee Society of Professional Journalists, the Foundation partners with ETSPJ in supporting programs that educate the providers and consumers of news, encouraging professional excellence and public understanding of the role of the press. The Foundation advocates for First Amendment rights, which protect freedom of the press, as well as for open meetings, transparency, ethical reporting, and quality in the journalism profession.
