Nov. 27—OCHLOCKNEE- This year has been an exciting year for Friends & Stars. From the State Capitol to the Regional Grand Winners, Friends & Stars has been shining all year long. On behalf of the organization, they would like to thank the community for all the support this year.

Friends & Stars owner Dixie Lee Hedrington-Miller's Pecan Orchard painting was chosen by Governor Brian Kemp to be placed in the Georgia State Capitol for an entire year.

Additionally, Friends & Stars, Inc. hosted several senior citizen classes this summer at local nursing homes and with the local Housing Authority. When school began, Friends & Stars, Inc. weekly art classes were offered to students with different abilities with the Thomasville City School System and at the Marguerite Neel Williams Boys and Girls Club of Thomasville, Georgia. The BGC stars are currently working on a National Art Competition for the upcoming year. The Friends & Stars Saturday Art Club which is hosted twice a month on the headquarters campus, allows Stars from all walks of life to come together and enjoy the freedom of communicating in a creative manner through arts and crafts.

During summer vacation, Miller was able to host several Friends & Stars, Inc. art classes in her hometown of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. Friends & Stars, Inc. partnership with Keep Thomasville Beautiful and the Golden Triangle RC&D led to two local students/ Stars winning top prizes at the Georgia Project Wet — Rivers of Words Art and Poetry contest.

As a parent of a child with disability, Miller's main goal is to allow each and every child in the community to find their special way to communicate through arts and crafts.

On Saturday, December 16, 2023 from noon until 5:00 p.m., Friends & Stars is hosting the Pecan Orchard Festival & Art show. This event is open to the public at 1570 Smith Rd. Ochlocknee, Georgia.

There will be art paintings from Stars and local artist for sales, live music, vendors, arts & crafts tables, and a variety of food. The proceeds for this event will go to building a specialized bathroom for Stars with special accommodations.
