‘Friends’ Cast Reunites to Honor Legendary Director James Burrows

On Sunday’s Must See TV: An All Star Tribute to James Burrows, the legendary sitcom director was honored by the casts of his former shows. Stars from hits like Taxi, Cheers, Will and Grace, Frasier, The Big Bang Theory, Mike and Molly, and, of course, Friends, were on hand to reminisce.

During the conversation with the cast of Friends, we learned that they weren’t just playing the roles of a few pals hanging around a coffee shop — they also played the roles of characters who came before them. It turns out that Burrows went to each person and assigned a character from one of his past shows. Matt LeBlanc, for instance, was Danza. As in Tony Danza, who starred in Taxi as Tony Banta.

They also discussed being actual friends and doing things like watching one another’s scenes and offering suggestions, hanging out to watch the show together, and having lunch together every day for 10 years. Courteney Cox even referenced something she called the “Jennifer salad,” which basically sounds like an average salad that just so happened to be tossed by Jennifer Aniston.
