Friends' baby Emma actress makes hilarious callback to Chandler's 2020 joke

2020 has only just begun, but one former Friends star has already won the internet with a perfectly timed reference to a season 10 episode of the iconic sitcom.

In the episode titled “The One With the Cake,” Chandler and Monica are upset after missing out on a romantic trip because of a birthday party for Ross and Rachel’s daughter, Emma. When Ross asks the couple to film a message for his daughter, which she will receive on her 18th birthday, the couple brings out the snark.

“Hi, Emma. It’s the year 2020. Are you still enjoying your nap?” Chandler jokes, as Monica replies, “We’re Aunt Monica and Uncle Chandler, by the way — you may not recognize us because we haven’t spoken to your parents in 17 years.”

Noelle Sheldon, who played Emma on the show alongside her twin sister, Cali, recalled the joke in a New Year’s Day Instagram post. “Just woke up from the best nap of all time, happy 2020!!” she wrote alongside a Photoshopped photo of her holding a Central Perk mug in the show’s iconic coffee shop. “Finally,” her twin replied to the post.

Since their breakout role on Friends, the Sheldon twins have continued to act, and were most recently seen in Jordan Peele’s Us.

2020 may have marked the end of a great nap for Sheldon, but for fans of Friends who get their fix of the show on Netflix, it marked the end of the line. Last summer, WarnerMedia announced its upcoming streaming service, HBO Max, would carry the exclusive rights to the show, and starting on Jan. 1, 2020, it would no longer be available on Netflix.

Friends will make its HBO Max debut in May, when the service launches.
