Friday After 5 season opener canceled

The season opener for the “Friday After 5” concert series has been canceled, in anticipation of rain and possible thunderstorms Friday and Friday night.

The National Weather Service in Paducah is forecasting rain throughout the day Friday and a 50% chance of rain and thunderstorms Friday night.

In a press release, Friday After 5 board president Starling Lambert wrote: “After much discussion and consulting with weather professionals we regret to inform you that the first Friday After 5 of the 2024 season is canceled due to the incoming inclement weather”

Moving the event inside the RiverPark Center is “unfortunately is not an option,” Lambert said.

“Our experienced local weather forecasters advised us to err on the side of safety for all,” Lambert said in her statement. “Unfortunately it is just going to be a miserable day and evening all around.”

Because of the cancellation, the Friday After 5 season will be extended one week, Lambert said in the release. The last event of the season will be Aug. 9.
