EXCLUSIVE: Quiver Distribution announced today that they have acquired North American rights for the family crime drama Fresh Kills written and directed by Jennifer Esposito (Blue Bloods, Summer Of Sam, Crash) in her feature film debut. The film stars Esposito, Emily Bader, Odessa A’zion, Domenick Lombardozzi, and Annabella Sciorra. Quiver will release the film in theaters on May 17th.

Fresh Kills brings late 1980s Staten Island to vivid life through the lens of Rose Larusso (Bader), an inquisitive young girl who discovers her father (Lombardozzi) is an emerging mafia kingpin. Rose’s growing desire to break free from the path set before her soon threatens her existence and alienates her from her closest allies: her mother Francine (Esposito), her sister Connie (A’zion), and her aunt Christine (Sciorra).

Fresh Kills is a brand new take on the classic mob movie” said Quiver Distribution Co-Presidents Berry Meyerowitz and Jeff Sackman, who added that “it shines a light on the women operating inside the mafia life and focuses in on their unique experiences and roles within the family.”

“Fresh Kills is less about the mafia world and more about the journey of the women in it,” said Esposito. “It explores the issues of wanting more than you were allotted in life. A theme almost everyone can relate to. It looks at unspoken rules in our society and then seeing if we have the courage to break them for ourselves and for the generation to follow.”

The film is produced by Esposito along with Leslie Owen, Christine Crokos, and Samantha Sprecher.

Esposito is repped by WME, Echo Lake and Tricarico Chavez LLP. The deal was negotiated by Larry Greenberg on behalf of Quiver Distribution and by Jessica Lacy at Range Media Partners and attorney Christopher Tricarico on behalf of the production. The Exchange is handling foreign sales.

The film, which premiered at The Tribeca Film Festival, has won numerous awards and acclaim out of the festival circuit including the Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature at the Hamptons International Film Festival, New York Women in Film & Television’s Excellence in Directing Award, and the Artistic Director’s Award at the San Diego International Film Festival.
