French restaurants in Palm Beach to mark Bastille Day with special menu items
French restaurants in Palm Beach are ready to celebrate one of France’s most well-known holidays: La Fête Nationale, otherwise known as Bastille Day.
For the July 14 holiday — commemorating the 1789 storming of the Bastille as well as France’s 1790 unification — three French restaurants on the island will feature special fare, and a red-white-and-blue theme honoring the French flag.
During dinner service at Le Bilboquet in Via Encantada off Worth Avenue, plans call for the staff to wear 18th-century-style wigs and the colors of the French flag; guests are encouraged to also wear red, white and blue.
In addition, Le Bilboquet will serve a special complimentary amuse-bouche to guests at the start of their meals.
That offering will feature three canapés representing the colors of France’s flag: foie gras with crispy vitelotte and blueberry chutney (blue); heirloom tomato gazpacho (red) in a shot glass; and a cheese gougère (white).
At Café L’Europe, three dinner specials will be offered (in addition to the restaurant’s regular menus) in recognition of Bastille Day.
A foie-gras duo (terrine and sauté) is the special appetizer ($29), while grilled turbot with Bearnaise sauce and ratatouille is the entrée special ($55).
The dessert special is strawberry tarte millefeuille ($17), which includes sweet red, white and blue components.
La Goulue also is set to feature Bastille Day specials; its regular menus also will be available. The specials will be available at both lunch and dinner.
They include a half-dozen frog’s legs with lemon-garlic herb butter ($22); braised beef cheeks with steamed summer vegetables and coriander vinaigrette ($46); and peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream ($18).
