Fremantle US Is On The Verge Of Being The Next Scandalous Hashtag
Fans were surprised to hear that Gabrielle Union was fired from “America’s Got Talent” earlier this year. The veteran actress made sure to let fans know that the firing was due to her speaking up about some of the offensive things she has heard and seen behind the scenes of the popular reality TV show. However, she is no longer the lone whistleblower in this scenario. Her accusations have been backed up by actor/comedian Orlando Jones who has recently formulated his own complaints against Fremantle in regard to his firing from “American Gods”.

Let’s start from the beginning. Back in November. Gabrielle Union announced that she was not asked to come back after her first season of AGT. Union later stated on her social media that she was the victim of derogatory racial comments about her hairstyles changing too often and being “too black”. She went on to share that she overheard comedian Jay Leno make a racist joke towards Simon Cowell about his dogs looking like they would be “on the menu at a Korean restaurant.” Many people on the show found this obviously racist and offensive.
Well, now, Union isn’t alone in her allegations against not only her show but the production company Fremantle US. She may even have the last laugh. In case you are not familiar with Fremantle US they are responsible for bringing shows to your TV screen like “The Young Pope”, “The Price Is Right”, “Wentworth”, and “Family Feud”. In addition, their studios are used to film some great shows one of those shows is “American Gods”. This is where Orlando Jones comes into the mix. The actor took to Twitter this week to address the issues he dealt with while Filming “American Gods”.
Jones stated that he was fired from the show on Sept. 10 this year. “Correction: I was fired Sept 10, 2019 like @itsgabrielleu @OfficialMelB @NickCannon @heidiklum all have said @FremantleUS is a nightmare. They treated you like a 2nd class citizen for doing your job to well. Stay tuned. More to come. #AngryGetsShitDone” Jones’ tweeted. As he promised more was to come. He went on to address the new higher ups and how they affected his coins in their shake up. “There will be no more Mr. Nancy. Don’t let these motherfckers tell you they love Mr. Nancy. They don’t.” He explained. “I’m not going to name names but the new season 3 showrunner is Connecticut-born and Yale-educated, so he’s very smart and he thinks that Mr. Nancy’s angry, get sht done is the wrong message for Black America.”
He channeled Mr. Nancy as he elaborated in his tweet. “That’s right. This white man sits in that decision-making chair and I’m sure he has many Black bffs who are his advisors and made it clear to him that if he did not get rid of that angry god Mr. Nancy he’d start a Denmark Vesey uprising in this country. I mean, what else could it be?” Truly, can this situation get any more awkward? Fremantle is now being investigated by SAG-AFTRA for not only these allegations but the allegations made by Union. We have to say this is starting off slow and steady just like other scandals that have hit big names and big companies in the past. It seems like Fremantle is on the verge of being the next angry hashtag.
Time will be the teller of any more secrets threatened to be exposed by former angry Fremantle US employees and talent. So far, SAG-AFTRA has only released a brief statement but it’s safe to say that they are taking things as seriously as they would any other allegations. “Our enforcement actions are handled confidentially to protect the members involved, and we typically do not publicize these matters unless the affected members request that we do so. We have nothing further to report at this time.” Fremantle US has been problematic in the past with other celebrities like Nick Cannon, Melanie Brown of Spice Girl’s fame, and Heidi Klum all alleging this company needs to make some changes ASAP.
