Directed by Pierre Morel, Freelance is an action comedy film that tells the story of Mason Pettits, a former U.S. Army Special Forces operative who was medically discharged after he was injured during an unsuccessful mission to eliminate Juan Venegas, the dictatorial ruler of Paldonia. Bored with his current life as a lawyer, Mason agrees to freelance as security for journalist Claire Wellington as she visits Paldonia for an interview with Venegas. Meanwhile, a coup brews against the said dictator. Freelance premiered in theaters on October 27, 2023, and received poor responses from both the critics and the general audience. Is there a Freelance 2 release date?
There is no Freelance 2 release date as it hasn’t been greenlit yet, and is unlikely to happen in the future.
As of December 2023, there is no official announcement regarding Freelance 2. When the film came out, director Pierre Morel told JoBlo that he would love to make more Freelance movies with John Cena and Alison Brie. “Oh, I’d love to. Honestly, I’d love to. It was fun. If this one is successful, which I hope, there’s potential for more,” he said.
The filmmaker added that the bloopers in the end credits indicate a potential sequel. Ultimately, the studios almost always greenlight sequels based on the performance of the original film, and Freelance garnered a disastrous 7% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and earned $9 million at the global box office against its $40 million budget. Considering this, it can be speculated that Freelance 2 is unlikely to happen.
