Freeform renews The Bold Type for two seasons

Freeform's The Bold Type renewed for two seasons

Time for some champagne in the fashion closet!

Freeform has heard your subway screams, Bold Type fans. The network announced Wednesday that the summer breakout dramedy has been renewed for two more 10-episode seasons. The Hollywood Reporter first reported the news.

Based on the experiences of executive producer and former Cosmopolitan editor in chief Joanna Coles, The Bold Type chronicles the exploits of three millennial women who work at the fictional Scarlet magazine. The first season ended with a trio of cliffhangers, with social media guru Kat (Aisha Dee) impulsively catching a plane to Peru; aspiring fashion editor Sutton (Meghann Fahy) choosing her forbidden romance with Richard over her nascent relationship with Alex; and politically minded writer Jane (Katie Stevens) leaving the women’s magazine of her dreams to take a job at the edgy website Incite.

The second and third seasons won’t only bring changes for the ladies of Scarlet, but behind the scenes as well; creator Sarah Watson will be stepping down as showrunner, to be replaced by Sweet/Vicious’ Amanda Lasher.

“At Freeform, we are committed to delivering shows that celebrate the power and possibility of the female voice,” said Karey Burke, EVP of Programming & Development at Freeform, in the press release. “Season 1 of The Bold Type brought culturally significant stories to the masses that not only entertain but also empower our viewers to conquer the world — we are excited to continue to champion these incredible women.”

Star Aisha Dee celebrated “two more seasons with my best boo boos” on Twitter. Season 1 of The Bold Type is available to stream on the Freeform app, Freeform.com, Hulu, and On Demand.
