Freeform Orders Multi-Cam Pilot ‘Brown Girls’
Freeform has given a pilot order for the comedy “Brown Girls” from producers Shilpi Roy and Nastaran Dibai.
The multi-camera comedy follows the odd-couple duo of Rimmi, an Indian-American aspiring beauty vlogger, and Devi, a young woman who has recently emigrated from India.
Brought together by family, Rimmi and Devi instantly clash over their different views on modern life and love while slowly realizing they both have something to learn from each other.

Roy (“Hipsterhood”) and Dibai (“Malibu Country,” “According to Jim”) co-wrote the pilot, with Dibai serving as executive producer alongside Tracy Katsky, Aaron Kaplan and Dana Honor. Roy serves as co-executive producer.
“We love this odd-couple comedy not just because it is a sophisticated, funny show but we are thrilled to tell a story about part of the American experience that isn’t really on TV today,” said Karey Burke, Freeform’s executive vice president, Programming & Development.

The network previously ordered pilots for the single-camera comedy “Alone Together,” magazine drama “Issues” and mermaid thriller “The Deep.” The network’s current multi-camera lineup includes “Baby Daddy,” which was picked up for Season 6 in June, and “Young & Hungry,” which aired its Season 4 finale in August.
Freeform also has the single-camera comedy “Nicki,” based on the life of rapper Nicki Minaj, in the works. The comedy received a straight-to-series order from the network last year.
