Multinational fast food chain, Burger King, is giving out free burgers in honor of the solar eclipse.

The 2024 total solar eclipse will be on Monday, April 8, crossing over Mexico, the United States and Canada.

This means the moon will pass between the Sun and the Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun and darkening the sky. The next total solar eclipse in the United States won’t occur until 2045. States in the path of totality include Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.

Whether or not you're in the path of totality, you can celebrate the rare event with a free Whopper from Burger King and other dining deals.

How to get a free Whopper from Burger King?

From April 8-15, if members of Burger King’s Royal Perks loyalty program text the word ECLIPSE to 251251 they can get a buy-one-get-one free Whopper. This offer is redeemable in the app or on the Burger King website.

The Royal Perks program can be joined in the app or on. There can only be one Eclipse BOGO offer per account. It is also not valid in Alaska, Hawaii or U.S. territories.

There are a few other chains offering deals for the solar eclipse:

  • Pizza Hut’s Total Eclipse of the Hut deal: On Monday, April 8, you can get any large pizza for $12. This applies to creating your own pizza with up to 10 toppings or ordering any of Pizza Hut’s recipe pizzas – including Thin ‘N Crispy, Hand Tossed Pizza and Original Pan Pizza. The offer includes carryout, dine-in and delivery.

  • Applebee’s ‘Perfect Eclipse’ Margarita: This new drink is made with Patrón Premium Silver Blanco Tequila, Citrónge Orange Liqueur, Monin Blue Raspberry and Passion Fruit syrups, and lemon and lime. It is available now through April 14. Check your local Applebee’s for availability as not all will be carrying this new drink.

  • Marco’s Pizza: From April 8-14, Marco’s Pizza customers can get 50% off all menu-price pizzas using the promo code ECLIPSE. Orders can be made online or through the app.

  • Smoothie King: Smoothie King will have a special Eclipse Berry Blitz drink with bananas, wild blueberries, apples, blueberry juice blend, white grape lemon juice blend, protein blend and blue spirulina, a blue-green algae powder. The drink will be available March 27-April 8. Customers who buy the drink at a location in the path of totality will get a free pair of Smoothie King-branded eclipse glasses.

  • Sonic Drive-In: Sonic Drive-In will have a new limited-edition drink called the Blackout Slush Float with flavors of cotton candy and dragon fruit topped with soft serve and blue and purple galaxy-themed sprinkles. Available now through May 5, the franchise will also be handing out free solar eclipse viewing glasses with the purchase of a float while supplies last.
