Rosa Parks is best know for her roll in the Montgomery bus boycott during the 1950s. Parks refused to give up her bus seat to a white man on a Montgomery bus in December of 1955. She was arrested for her actions which launched the Montgomery bus boycott where 17,000 black citizens refused to use the city bus.
