Free pet adoptions: Stanislaus Animal Services hopes to ‘clear the shelter’ Saturday

Stanislaus County Animal Services Agency is asking for the public’s help with reducing the number of animals at the shelter on Cornucopia Way in Modesto.

The shelter will waive pet adoption fees during the Clear the Shelter event from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. The animal shelter is at 3647 Cornucopia Way.

The agency said the shelter is over the capacity for dogs and other animals. The Stanislaus shelter is participating in the national Clear the Shelter campaign.

The shelter normally charges a $120 adoption fee, according to its website, but the fee is waived for the campaign Saturday.

There “are no additional costs at all,” Executive Director Vaughn Maurice said via email. “We really need to find homes for nearly 300 pets, so it is totally free.”

According to a news release, the animal adoptions are on a first come, first served basis. The pets will be current on vaccinations, microchipped and neutered, the agency said. The shelter is housing almost 300 animals.
