Frankie Muniz went from child star to proud father.

The Malcolm in the Middle actor and his now-wife, Paige Muniz, eloped in October 2019 before they married in a “magical” ceremony in February 2020. The couple welcomed their first child, son Mauz Mosley Muniz, in March 2021. Frankie described his arrival as the moment his life “changed forever.”

Early in Mauz's life, Frankie had to start balancing his career with being a dad, including leaving for three weeks to film the VH1 reality show The Surreal Life when his son was 6 months old. The Rookie guest star told E! News it was “really hard to leave,” adding, “I cherish every single moment I get to spend with my family."

Here’s everything to know about about Frankie Muniz’s son, Mauz Mosley Muniz.

Frankie and Paige announced they were expecting their first child together in a video on their YouTube channel in September 2020. The pair started it out by stating that they "experienced so many incredible things together," like traveling and "[living] out once-in-a-lifetime opportunities."

”While we still believe it's the little moments in between the big ones that make you feel happiest, nothing quite compares to the first time to hearing your little one's heartbeat," he said in the clip.

The actor shared that for him and Paige, it felt like they were “living and experiencing a real-life miracle for the first time.” He added, “The second I heard that heartbeat, reality set in. I was throwing out baby names and future career choices.”

Paige also opened up about the couple’s difficulties with their pregnancy, saying she and Frankie “were both in a state of disbelief” when they found out they were expecting. She revealed that although they wanted to start a family, they "were told our chances weren't that great." Still, they "beat the odds" and were "really excited for the future."

At the end of their video, which featured scenic views of Wyoming and snippets of them dancing together in celebration, Frankie stopped short of revealing the baby's sex.

Frankie and Paige welcomed Mauz Mosley Muniz on March 22, 2021, at 11:15 a.m.

The actor announced the news on his Instagram Story, sharing a video of him cradling his newborn son. While he didn’t show his face or reveal his name at the time, Frankie said, "I love him so much. I love my wife so much."

Paige shared the meaning behind Mauz’s name on Instagram several months after his birth in August 2021. She said her son’s name “suits him absolutely perfectly,” explaining, “Mauz stems from the Hebrew ‘Mauzzim’ or ‘Moazim’ which translates to God of Fortresses, if we’re talking literally.”

“When written in the Bible, it was intended to be interpreted as ‘Gods Protector,’ " Paige continued. “Mauz, means: a place or means of safety, or protection.”

In addition to his acting career, Frankie has pursued his passion for racing and is a professional driver. He told PEOPLE in January 2023 that he “caught the bug of wanting to be a driver” in 2004 after he won a tournament in Long Beach, California.

After more than a decade, he returned to the track in Daytona at the ARCA Menards Series championship, a decision inspired by his son's birth and feeling like he still had "unfinished business" in the racing world.

"It hit me when I had my son,” Frankie said of his dream to race in a series. “I want him to grow up seeing me reach for my dreams and work hard for something that I'm passionate about."

In February 2023, ahead of the race, he told the Tampa Bay Times that he was "ready to prove it for my family," especially his son. He continued: "Everything I've done is in my past, right? But I wanted him to see me ... reaching for a goal and striving for that."

While Frankie has set out to make his son proud, Mauz has shown up for his father, too.

The Agent Cody Banks star has shared several sweet photos and videos throughout Mauz’s childhood that showcase the toddler’s encouraging nature, including an Instagram photo of the actor holding his son at the Irwindale Speedway in March 2022. “Mauz is excited to watch daddy race cars this weekend,” he captioned it.

In a heartfelt Instagram video, posted in May 2023, Frankie's son joined his side after finishing sixth place at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. “This is what it’s all for, getting a hug from my son after a tough race," he wrote alongside the snippet.

After his second birthday, Mauz had an undisclosed medical scare that had him in and out of the hospital for several days.

In May 2023, Frankie shared details of his son’s health updates on X (formerly known as Twitter), beginning with the news that he was taking his son to the third emergency room over the course of three days. Several hours later, he posted an update with his followers that Mauz had gotten transferred to another hospital via ambulance to receive more tests.

By the next day, Frankie posted one final update, writing, “Making him stay another night in the hospital. Hope Mauz improves soon so we can go home tomorrow.”

Later that same month, the Sharknado franchise star opened up about the medical scare they had with Mauz through an Instagram video, in which the toddler donned a hospital bracelet. While he didn’t divulge new information in the caption, Frankie said, “Mauz gave us a real scare, and was hospitalized for a few days.”

“He is on the road to recovery,” he added. “I’m grateful for the information we found out to be able to give him everything he needs to move forward.”

Mauz traveled across the United States to see where his parents grew up and meet extended family before his first birthday.

In October 2021, Paige shared a series of photos on social media from a trip to New Jersey to visit Frankie’s side of the family. The pictures captured an outing at a pumpkin patch, including a heartwarming snap of Frankie’s sister holding her nephew.

The actor also shared his own set of photos from the family-filled trip, revealing that Mauz got to meet his great-grandparents.

A few days prior, Mauz visited his mom's favorite spots from her childhood in Pennsylvania. Frankie posted several photos on Instagram from their stop at a local farm.

Muniz will "never" let him be a child actor

During an interview with Pedestrian TV in March 2024, Muniz told the outlet that he'd "never" let Mauz become a child actor.

"I would never let my kid go into the business," he explained, "and not that I had a negative experience, because to be honest, my experience was 100% positive. But I know so many people, friends that were close to me, that had such insanely negative experiences."

Muniz added: "I just think it's an ugly world, in general. I never cared about rejection, but there's a ton of rejection."
