Attention, pizza snobs: Oscar-nominated actor Paul Giamatti, being a man of certain rarefied tastes and pleasures, is one of you.

Giamatti — who, again, is as fussy as pizza lovers come — said so on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” in late February, when the New Haven, Connecticut, native proclaimed that his favorite pizza pie comes from his hometown. Specifically, it’s the White Clam apizza with bacon from Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana.

What’s that? A pizza? No, it’s apizza. “It’s ah-beetz!” Giamatti explained to Kimmel during the segment, pinching his index finger and thumb together for pronunciation emphasis. “I’ve literally never had better pizza. I’m a snob about it.”

To celebrate its shoutout on national television, Frank Pepe locations nationwide (including those in Delray Beach and Plantation) will rechristen its White Clam apizza with bacon the “Paul Giamatti Pie” for one day only: Sunday, March 10 —

That’s the same day that Giamatti will be making a further bid for cinematic immortality at the 96th Academy Awards, where he’s up for a Best Actor trophy for the movie “The Holdovers” opposite contenders Cillian Murphy (“Oppenheimer”), Jeffrey Wright (“American Fiction”) and Bradley Cooper (“Maestro”).

The medium-sized “Paul Giamatti Pie,” which Frank Pepe’s is also calling a “Holdover” pie, will cost $25. Sure, it’s all in good-natured fun, but it’s also for a good cause: Proceeds from sales of that pie in Plantation will benefit The Salvation Army, while sales in Delray Beach will benefit The Wayside House.

The first Florida Frank Pepe location debuted in Plantation in October 2022, with Delray Beach’s following in June 2023. Frank Pepe’s coal-fired apizzas are baked at a super-hot 600 degrees Fahrenheit for a few minutes, yielding an oblong pie with charred — not burnt — crispy-chewy crust and cheese like molten lava.

For his part, Giamatti acknowledges that his pizza snobbery is hardly shared by everyone, especially not by his son, who lives and dies for the majesty of New York-style.

“My kid is a New Yorker, and I took him to New Haven, and he’s like … ” Giamatti told Kimmel, blowing a raspberry. “He doesn’t like it. And I live in New York, too, where I get into all kinds of altercations with people about this.”

It’s a good thing South Floridians have an embarrassment of pizza riches, from Detroit to Chicago to New Haven to Cuban and Haitian, and therefore have no reason to argue or have altercations. Nope. Never. Not even once.
