Francis Ford Coppola praises ‘longtime friend’ Martin Scorsese’s ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’

Francis Ford Coppola has traveled down the road and back again with Martin Scorsese since their days as maverick ‘70s filmmakers – and now the Oscar-winning director has provided a brief but powerful review of Scorsese’s latest film, “Killers of the Flower Moon.”
My longtime friend [Martin Scorsese] has a new film coming out this month, ‘Killers of the Flower Moon,’” Coppola wrote on his Instagram account alongside a trailer for the Apple Original Film. He is a wonderful person and the world’s greatest living filmmaker. His new film delivers on every level.”

Scorsese’s 206-minute epic will arrive in theaters in less than two weeks and stands as one of the year’s top Oscar contenders – with expected nominations in Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio, Best Actress for Lily Gladstone, and Best Supporting Actor for Robert De Niro. “Killers of the Flower Moon” debuted to strong reviews at the Cannes Film Festival in May, and won raves anew at the BFI London Film Festival over the weekend.
Coppola, alongside fellow directors George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, helped present Scorsese with his first and only Oscar for Best Director – and he is just the latest filmmaker to praise the 80-year-old legend’s latest project. In an interview recently published by the Washington Post, Spike Lee cited “Flower Moon” as a recent film that had inspired him.
“Well, you know, Scorsese, that’s my guy. ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ is a great film,” Lee said. “That Native American woman, Lily Gladstone, she’s winning an Oscar. And I don’t think that’s a supporting role. I think that’s a leading role. She’s got my vote.” (Gladstone decided last month to campaign in the Best Actress race as opposed to Best Supporting Actress.)
“Killers of the Flower Moon” is out on October 20.
