Francis Ford Coppola Brings His Granddaughter Romy, 17, to Cannes Premiere of “Megalopolis”

Francis Ford Coppola had a sweet plus-one with him as he premiered his newest film.

On Thursday, May 16, the director, 85, was photographed attending the Cannes premiere of his film Megalopolis, posing with his granddaughter Romy Mars, 17. Wearing a black suit and a black bow tie, Francis added a wooden cane and hat to accessorize as he stood with his granddaughter.

Romy matched her grandfather's outfit color choice, wearing a sleeveless black dress and sparkly heels. The two were photographed walking the red carpet together, and later Romy was seen escorting her grandfather to his seat in the theater.

Francis' daughter Sofia Coppola, 53, is mom to Romy and Cosima, 13, whom she shares with her musician husband Thomas Mars.

This isn't the first time that Romy has been seen in the public eye. In March, Sophia's eldest daughter shared a since-deleted TikTok where she told viewers to "make a vodka pasta sauce with me because I'm grounded."

Romy then explained why she was grounded, saying that she "tried to charter a helicopter from New York to Maryland on my dad's credit card because I wanted to have dinner with my camp friend."

After trying to put together her pasta sauce, she said she decided to film the TikTok as she was "already grounded" and her parents' "biggest rule is I'm not allowed to have any public social media accounts."

"Here's why," Romy shared, holding a Grammy award to the camera with a sarcastic smile. "Because they don't want me to be a nepotism kid, but TikTok is not gonna make me famous, so it doesn't really matter."

Romy also showed a glimpse of "Ari, my babysitter's boyfriend," alleging, "My parents are never home so these are my replacement parents."

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter about her movie Priscilla, Coppola commented on when Romy went viral on TikTok.

"We were raised to be so private and social media is so opposite of how I grew up," the filmmaker said. "So, it was the best way for her to be rebellious."

"I got a lot of compliments on her filmmaking. And comedy. She's funny. But people discussing my parenting publicly is not what I would've hoped for," she added.
